Summary:

This paper will describe the specification of an expert system for condition monitoring of the condenser and the healers of a power plant. The abbreviated name used for this expert system is SEDFIPA. The goal of SEDFIPA is the condition monitoring of a set of power plant components in order to detect incipient faults or performance degradations of them and, if this occurs, to diagnose the problem researching its root cause. To fulfill its objective, SEDFIPA consists of several modules integrated together in a general architecture. It combines techniques of component performance models and knowledge based systems. SEDFIPA is intended as a helpful tool to assist the operation of a power plant as well as the maintenance planning of the target components.
